How to find orphan pages with no internal links

Compare a crawl with your sitemap, Search Console and Analytics to find pages that exist but that no internal link points to.

An orphan page exists, but no internal link leads to it. Visitors can't reach it by clicking, and Google sees it rarely or never. A crawler that only follows links won't find such a page by definition, so SEO Bee compares the crawl with sources that do know about it.

Three sources

SourceWhat you needWhere you see the result
XML sitemapRead XML sitemaps in the settingsSitemaps tab, Orphan (sitemap only) filter; Orphan pages from sitemap report
Search ConsoleA connected Google accountFrom Search Console, not found by the crawl report
Google Analytics 4A connected Google account and a GA4 propertyFrom Google Analytics, not found by the crawl report

Steps

  1. Turn on sitemap reading and, if you have access, connect Search Console and GA4 (see integrations).
  2. Crawl the site in Whole site mode.
  3. Wait for the crawl to finish. Orphan pages are only worked out in the analysis after the last URL.
  4. Open the three reports from the table above and merge them into one list. The same address often turns up in more than one.
  5. Decide on each address: an important page gets an internal link from a page on a related topic; an old or empty one gets a 301 or 410 and comes out of the sitemap.
The No internal links filter in the Links tab is something else: those are pages the crawler did find, but that don't link anywhere themselves. A dead end, not an orphan.
